Description
In April 2010, Broadway In Chicago expanded its repertoire with a new theater space — Broadway Playhouse in Water Tower Place. This building was originally erected in the 1970s and served as the home of the Drury Lane Theatre. Over time, it changed its purpose several times, turning from a theater to a cinema and back again, until it became known as the Drury Lane Water Tower. Before becoming part of Broadway In Chicago, it hosted successful screenings of productions such as "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", as well as "Shout" and "Xanadu" at the Drury Lane Theatre. After a significant renovation that transformed the space, Broadway Playhouse reopened in September 2010, marking this with a four-day performance of "An Evening with Sutton Foster". The renovation included a new entrance, redevelopment of the lobby and modern interior design.
Located in the heart of the Magnificent Mile, Broadway Playhouse offers Broadway In Chicago the opportunity to attract productions ideal for chamber theater. This cozy and unique space allowed the company to diversify its theatrical experiences. Since its reopening, Broadway Playhouse has become a venue for such popular shows as the premiere of the Traces tour, an updated version of the musical "Working", the internationally recognized production of Nora and Delia Efron's "Love, Loss and What I Wear", the Broadway hit "Colin Quinn: Long Story Short", and also known for The musical "Rock of Ages" is all over the world.
